We are keen to involve as many people as possible in our wonderful sport of gymnastics and this includes those who would like to coach. In addition to our offering for gymnasts, our intention is to set up and run courses in coach education. This will also include sessions for teachers who wish to get a BG qualification or are just looking for some ideas for their school gym club or classes and older pupils involved in GCSE or A level PE who want to learn more about the practical side of coaching gymnastics.
Our Director of Coaching Jeff Davis is a member of British Gymnastics National Technical Committee and also the National Coach Education Panel, which works with BG to develop and monitor all coaching qualifications. With 35 years of experience and a BG Master Coach, he has coached and judged all around the world.
BG ‘Awards Scheme’ Coach (aged 12 years and above)
This is a preliminary award in coaching, based around the BG awards scheme and is suitable for young people just starting out in their coaching career or adults who would like an introduction into teaching gymnastics.
BG Teachers’ Award (teaching gymnastics in schools)
This award has been set up by BG for teachers who run a school club or want to get more ideas and knowledge for teaching classes. It is only valid for coaching in schools or school clubs.
An integral part of qualifying for a BG coaching award is the completion of mentored coaching hours. We will offer this to coaches who wish to come and work with us.
